Snow and Merry Christmas
So I decided to lead another club ride, this time to Angle Creek Lodge, up the winter trail from 27 mile Chena Hot Springs Road (CHSR). The temps were questionable, at least the forecast was calling for -20 below temps. We got lucky, the temps at the trail head where we started was 3 above at 10:00 AM when we left and stayed in the above zero range all day.
So with fresh snow on the trail the 6 of us headed out. Leading the ride I couldn’t complain about the conditions, a couple inches of fresh snow covered the trail and the trail was pretty smooth and easy going. We made a couple stops on the way in and at one of these, the gravel pit at 42 mile Steve and a couple of the others mentioned all the stuff they saw on the trail. Me, I didn’t see a thing and kind of wondered why, but didn’t give it another thought, dumb me.
When we got to the lodge Steve (Steve and Annette are the owners) was a bit surprised to see us, he told me they didn’t open till noon, so I told him it was 5 minutes after :<) and asked what was available for food. Burgers, burgers, or burgers, so we had 2 of each with fries. We did learn that Annette was in the hospital and had cancer, not treatable, and I was sorry to hear that. Hopefully she was able to make it home for the holidays at least. On the ride back to the rigs we stopped again and I decided to see if my coffee was still hot. Hum, remember all that stuff the others saw on the trail, well dang nabit, it was MY stuff. I must be getting CRS (can’t remember sh!t) since I forgot to zip my bag on the Bearcat and lost about $300.00 worth of survival gear, including my portable stove and small thermos. Found the thermos and it is now of a customize design, flat on one side where it got run over, but it still kept my coffee warm and now won't roll off the table. Guess I better plan on doing some shopping before I go to the mountains again and replace it all, wonder if I shouldn’t also invest in stickers, a big one for windshield that says Check Bag… All in all it was as great ride and the company was enjoyable. Hope to do some more riding with these folks. Christmas Day we had Melissa, Shawn, Tyler and Mason over, of course Trish and Destiny were here as well and I think everyone enjoyed the ham and trimmings I cook, at least no one had to get their stomach pumped.
