So we finally got some snow and it turned out to be a big dump. Ok, snow down and time to get to the cabin and work on the inside walls.
I picked up some form board to finish insulating the floor, well not really, the floor insulation is actually done with a R-38 rating, but dang it, I keep hitting my head on the floor joist when I go under the cabin, so I figured I’d add a layer of 1 inch foam board. Increase the insulation factor y 4 to give me a R-42 floor and cover up the floor joist so I could cut back on my aspirin intake.

The cabin day after Christmas
Share on FacebookI also picked up about half of the 2×6’s I needed to stand the walls for the 8×8 generator shack I plan to build this summer. So what is a guy to do, well heck, I’ll take a couple days off of work and drive on down to the cabin the day after Christmas. Got all the family duties done on Christmas day and had an excellent time at Melissa and Shawn’s with the boys and Destiny and Brille.
So I was all loaded up and hit the road Friday morning, heck NOAA said the storm was to pass through by Friday morning and it was going to be clear skies and nice days, hah. Drove down in a small snow storm, the road wasn’t too bad, sometimes a few inches of snow on the road sometime clear from the plow.
It took me a bit longer than usual to get to the parking area at 170 Mile Parks Hwy. OK, no biggie, except that the state hadn’t yet plowed the pull out, the little dirt road I usually go down ¼ mile and park was barely accessible, and my back up option 2 miles down the road was also unplowed. In the third photo that little dirt road is between the two mounds of snow.
So what’s the big deal you say, 30 Inches of fresh snow. I did try to make a parking spot and wasn’t too successful. As you can see in the pictures the snow was deep, in fact it was 30 inches deep (measured) and since I forgot my snow shovel I wasn’t going to try and power my way in and be stuck.
So I had a nice 400 mile round trip Sunday drive. Of course I’m now behind my self-imposed schedule and will have to re-group for the next trip down, guess I might want to wait a week or two after the next storm and give the state time to plow the roads and pull outs
