Mt Ryan Foundation, Phase II

So we figured it was time to get back to Mt Ryan and get busy on the foundation for Dean’s cabin. We drove the truck up and camped out near the site at about 6.5 mile, the mosquitoes were the worst I’ve ever seen them out there, I think I donated a pint or two their survival. We did take a great ride down the Fairbanks-Circle Trail and the views along the way were fantastic.

30 day Claim to Fame

So it’s been a pretty difficult couple of weeks, some personnel issues at work that are better left un-said. But I did get a big surprise this week, I was selected as Employee of the Month.

A pretty nice note of acknowledgement from the borough for my small contribution to the community.

I did have to attend the FNSB Assembly meeting for my official receipt of the award, but that was pretty kool. A few folks from work showed up and gave me moral support, and to them a big thank you.

I also get a day’s leave with pay and a gift card for Sportsmans Outpost, now I just need to decide what to spend it on and when to enjoy my day of R&R.

Well its summer

We had a couple of weeks of hot and I mean really hot, mid eighties and so dry that the fires have started. Still having them, fortunately were not getting a lot smoke in town and that’s good. You can check out the status of Alaska Fires. When the skies are clear it has been just beautiful and when their cloudy, like it seems to be more times than not, the temps are down to a reasonable mid-70’s range. But don’t let this seem as if I’m complaining, I’m loving the hot sunny days.

Mothers Day and Wood Cutting

Yup, more wood cutting. Plan is to have all the firewood for next season in by the end of May so I can concentrate on cabin building. Anyway, here’s a couple pictures of the log skidder.

Sunday was Mothers day and Melissa came over with her bow and the kids as well as Cammie and Jake, our neighbors. I cooked up some steaks on the grill and since we had 8 of them to do up I decided to use the larger BBQ. Now if I’d of been thinking I’d have checked it out and maybe even cleaned it before lighting the darn thing. We haven’t used the large BBQ in a year or more and the first thing to go (up in flames that is) was the residual grease and ash from prior uses. So now my nice new deck has been officially broken in and it didn’t burn down as we were beginning to think it might. Since I just finished staining it the day before and yes I used an oil based stain and yes flaming pieces of ash and grease were falling down on it. Thanks to Shawn getting me cups and cups of water to put out the fire with, all worked out fine.

Easter and Wood Cutting

So Easter was on the 24th this year and it led to Trish and I discussing who decides when Easter is. Me, I just figured it was a specified Sunday every year, but nope, I was wrong. It’s based on the Catholic Calendar and changes every year. This is what started our conversion as last year it was April 4th, 3 weeks difference. Anywho, since I messed up on the photo taking, below are a couple short videos of Easter with Melissa, Shawn and the boys and Racheal and Adam with her youngun’s as well as .

Welcome to Louisiana

OK, this article was passed along to me and I have to admit I was pretty floored by it. I appreciate the law and law enforcement officers, but when was the vote passed that gave local cops the right to suspend your rights as a citizen. This is worth reading.

Welcome to Shreveport: Your rights are now suspended.
