After 30 some years of functioning quite well our septic system decided it was time to give up the ghost as it were. Around the 1st of the month (Aug 2013) we lost our use of the toilet, shower, and sinks. Fortunately we had the RV and I set it up as a temporary restroom facility, of course this didn’t include showers and my neighbor was kind enough to let me use his until I could plumb a temporary gray water system in. Anywho, all in all it meant a new septic system from lines, to tank to leach field. So what should I find in doing some reading, this nice post on Poop Decks, it fit my state of mind for the last two weeks…..

Poop Deck or My Septic System
Fourth of July, 2013
Fourth of July this year was a no fireworks event due to the extreme dry weather and fires. As of the time of this post the fire has grown to over 79,000 acres and evacuation notices have been issued for residence along the Chena Hot Springs Road area. But of course this is off topic, as we loaded up the motorhome and drove to 12 Mile Summit on the Steese Hwy so I could start doing some work on the foundation corners of our 2nd cabin, this one is 6.4 miles from the parking area and another beautiful location that is north of us rather than south.

Father’s Day 2013
Great weekend, we finally made it into the Nome Creek area for a weekend of camping and ATVing. BLM got the approaches to the Nome Creek Bridge fixed so folks could cross the creek to the established camp grounds, but heck, who wants to camp there, I much prefer finding a spot along the creek that’s big enough for our RV and others who joined us.
We drove out Friday afternoon and got camp set up just in time for dinner and a little BSing with Stoney, Peter, Dave and others and then went on a short 2 hour ride on the south-east side of the creek. Still lots of ice on the creek bottom and that made it an interesting trip.

Memorial Weekend
So we took the motorhome out for the first time this summer and it was a great trip. Drove down to the Donnelly Dome area (shown on GP track map) and meet up with a half dozen or more FST members who did the same switch we did from snowmachine to ATV.
Some pictures to keep you entertained.
Pre-Memorial Weekend Decision
We had planned to go to Nome Creek again this coming Memorial weekend, however it looks like we’ll be heading in a different direction, where, no idea as of yet.
All I know for now is that our camping spot along Nome Creek is buried under 1 to 4 feet of ice. Dang it, it’s the end of May already…. Guess it’s better then getting driven out from flooding like last year though.
Feels Like Spring
Well I’m hoping it is, finally spring that is. With the snow storm coming and ice still on the ground, it feels more like fall, but then the bears are coming out of hibernation, so maybe it is getting closer to summer. Of course the bruin that made this foot print can stay in his den as far as I’m concerned. 🙂

April 2013 and a cold spring it is. I figured I had one more trip into the cabin before all the snow melted and I called it a season for hauling materials in to the cabin before summer started and I could go back in and start to use up some of the materials I’d hauled in. Well it was a good thing I did as the snow was melting fast, or at least it was.

Last local ride to Chatanika Lodge, a 75 mile day and enjoyable. Temps were 45 above on the return ride and I rode without my coat on all afternoon. Have to love it.

The Cabin April 6th, 2013
Took half a day off of work on Friday and loaded up 20 eighty pound bags of Sackrete, the new furnace, water tank and 3 drums of fuels, and a 100 pound tank of propane for hauling into the cabin.
The drive down was excellent, blue bird skies and dry roads all the way, couldn’t ask for a better drive. I should have known something had to go wrong, it was just too nice of a drive. So we get set for a parking spot and off load the sleds and that was when I noticed the Bearcat suspension didn’t feel right. Sure enough a nut and bolt fell out. Dang nabit, I just got the machine back from the shop and had new shocks installed. I drove it on the trailer on Monday, off the trailer Friday when parts started falling off.

This was the best ride all season. 11 members showed up for breakfast and it was more than I had figured on. Dean (you all do remember our past president Mr. Allen) even showed up. Almost thought it was ghost at first :).
