The cabin near Hurricane, a summary of decisions and progress.

I figured I needed to do a summary on how we got to where we are and all the trips and work done so far to get a cabin built in the woods.

So back in Jan 2009, my buddy Dean and I decided to check out 5 acres of land east of the Parks Hwy at Mile Marker 169. This was the land advertised for sale that my wife Trish discovered one day and that Dean and I spent a day trying to locate, but could never find the corner markers. Of course it didn’t help that there was 10 feet of snow on the ground the day we tried to locate the property corners. But it did help to convince us to buy the place as a great get a way for riding our snow machines.

Snow and Christmas

Snow and Merry Christmas
So I decided to lead another club ride, this time to Angle Creek Lodge, up the winter trail from 27 mile Chena Hot Springs Road (CHSR). The temps were questionable, at least the forecast was calling for -20 below temps. We got lucky, the temps at the trail head where we started was 3 above at 10:00 AM when we left and stayed in the above zero range all day.

A snow filled weekend

Had a great ride Saturday with some of the Snow Travelers members and a couple of some “soon” to be members. We headed into the White Mountains with the plan to make it to Richards cabin, one of the remote cabins the BLM maintains for recreational use. We did make it and the ride was great for December, fresh snow on the ground and almost no other tracks on the trail. We started out with a head count of 5, lost 1 about 3 miles in do to engine trouble. Ended with 4 of us at the cabin and then picked up another member on the way out, so we were 5/4/5 on riders for the day.

Winter Trail

First real local ride of the season for me. This wasn’t a planned club ride, but it turned out to be a good one. 10 of us meet at the large pull out on Nordale road and headed towards Pleasant Valley at 22 Mile Chena Hot Springs Road.

Another Cabin Weekend

It’s the 2nd week of November and we got our first real snowfall, so Tyler and I drove to the cabin to get some work done. Plan was to get the furnace and fuel hauled in and then work on running the electrical wiring for the lights and wall plugs. Sean, Melissa’s boyfriend, or un-husband as she calls him, came down Friday night to help, as he’s an electrician I figured we would make short work of it. But I’m getting ahead of myself here.

MORE THAN A CLEVER PIECE OF ART ! ! !

So I said to him, “Barack, I know Abe Lincoln,
And you ain’t no Abe Lincoln .”
Obama a Democrat has made numerous attempts to quote Lincoln a Republican.

SO WHY DOESN’T OBAMA USE THIS FAMOUS LINCOLN QUOTE:

Cabin Update and the Moose that wasn’t

Dean and I had scheduled time to head down to the cabin and get the roof on before winter hit it full force and the snow started to fly. We drove down and parked the RV’s in our usual spot near Hurricane Gulch. The first day was spent working on the creek crossing and laying down some more railroad ties to keep the trail in usable condition. Not an easy job with all the rain we had this summer. I think I’m going to name it the BO crossing.

Moose Camp 2011

Ah September, every year I take the month off for moose hunting and general relaxation. This year was no difference, except my relaxation time was spent working on the cabin.
Hunting was great, bagged my moose, although he was a smaller bull he sure taste good, well at least the tenderloins tasted good, won’t get the rest back for another 2 weeks from Delta Meats who is doing the processing for us.
